Former Fruitland police officer arrested on sexual battery charges

FRUITLAND, Idaho (CBS 2) — A former Fruitland police officer was arrested on charges of sexual battery.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office tells us Alexander Scott Plaza was arrested Friday on eight felony counts.

The investigation started in June when the Fruitland Police Department received a report that Plaza was having inappropriate relations with minors on social media.

It was forwarded to the Washington County Sheriff's Office to avoid a conflict of interest.

A spokesman for Washington County Sheriff's Office said investigators has identified five victims.

They say Plaza spent time as a reserve and full-time officer in Fruitland from April of 2015 to June of this year. Plaza was originally held in the Washington County Jail on a $500,00 bond, but it's since been reduced to $150,000.
